Roosevelt 58, Northridge 44, in Greeley: Roosevelt jumped out to a 14-6 lead in the first quarter and kept Northridge just out of striking distance the rest of the way. The Rough Riders improved to 4-1 overall, 2-0 in Class 4A Longs Peak League play. Northridge fell to 0-5, 0-2. Sophomore Zach Van Soest scored nine points for the Grizzlies.
Severance 58, Mountain View 57, in Severance: Severance secured a nail-biter to improve to 4-1 overall, 2-0 in 4A Longs Peak play. The Silver Knights have won four consecutive games. Severance trailed early, 15-6 after one quarter, before outscoring the Mountain Lions by a combined 33-24 in the second and third quarters. Severance outscored Mountain View 19-18 in the fourth after being tied at 39. Freshman Brady Varney and sophomore Ty Adam scored 22 and 20, respectively, for the Silver Knights. Adam added 10 rebounds, three assists and two steals. Adam is averaging 18.6 points and 9.4 rebounds per game.
Briggsdale 66, Lone Star 28, in Otis: Junior Michael Bittinger scored 17 points, and freshman Tanner Fiscus scored 16, as Briggsdale jumped out to a 21-10 lead after one quarter and a 44-16 lead at halftime. Bittinger added seven rebounds, four assists and six steals. The Falcons improved to 4-1 with this nonleague win.
Fort Lupton 60, Arvada 25, in Fort Lupton: Fort Lupton won its third consecutive game after dropping its season opener a few weeks ago. The Bluedevils now sit at 3-1 overall, having won their past three games by an average of 25 points per game.
Highland 90, Lyons 57, in Lyons: Highland kept rolling, winning its fifth consecutive game, scoring at least 81 points for the fourth consecutive game. The Huskies were on pace to score 100-plus for much of this game, leading 24-10 after one quarter, 56-27 at halftime and 78-41 after three quarters.
Northridge 58, Roosevelt 53, in Greeley: In a battle between local and statewide heavyweights, Northridge created a slight cushion early then held on late. the Grizzlies led 32-25 at halftime. Roosevelt took a 31-30 lead heading into the fourth quarter. The Grizzlies put the game away by outscoring the Rough Riders 18-12 in the fourth. Northridge improved to 5-0 overall, 3-0 in 4A Longs Peak League play. Roosevelt suffered its first loss of the season, falling to 4-1, 3-1. The Rough Riders entered the week ranked 14th in 4A by CHSAANow.com. The Grizzlies were unranked in the 15-team rankings but did receive votes.
University 46, Valley 29, in Greeley: University may be starting to find its stride after a slow start to the season. The Bulldogs won their second game in a row, improving to 3-3 overall, 2-1 in 3A Patriot League play. University got off to a fast start, leading 24-4 after one quarter before Valley kept pace in the second half. Senior Kylie Kravig led a balanced Bulldogs offensive effort with 11 points, nine assists and eight steals. Senior Makayla Kissler led Valley with 15 points on 6-of-12 shooting. The Vikings fell to 3-2 overall, 1-2 in Patriot League play.
Briggsdale 61, Lone Star 41, in Otis: Briggsdale remained perfect on the season (5-0) behind the power of freshman Jenna Krise’s 18 points and senior Shelby Hoffman’s 16 points. The Falcons jumped out to a 36-19 lead at halftime. Junior Emily Johnson added a team-high nine rebounds.
Eaton 58, Estes Park 27, in Eaton: Senior Catelyn Adams scored 12 points, junior Ahana Leffler poured in 10, and Eaton improved to 5-0 overall, 4-0 in 3A Patriot League play. Adams also pulled down a game-high nine rebounds. The Reds led 34-12 at halftime.
Severance 64, Mountain View 33, in Severance: After leading by just three points, 15-12, through one quarter, Severance outscored Mountain View 49-21 the rest of the way. Junior Natalia Puchino recorded 23 points, six rebounds, four assists and five steals for the Silver Knight. Severance improved to 4-1 overall, 2-0 in 4A Longs Peak play.
Fort Lupton 29, Arvada 18, in Fort Lupton: Fort Lupton played air-tight defense to secure its first win of the season, improving to 1-3 overall, 1-1 in 4A/3A Colorado League play.
Highland 60, Lyons 48, in Ault: Highland even its record at 3-3, including 3-1 in 3A/2A/1A Mile High play. The Huskies have gone 3-1 after an 0-2 start to the season.
Platte Valley 58, Brush 33, in Kersey: Platte Valley was back in action after a nine-day hiatus. The Broncos improved to 3-1 overall, including 1-0 in 3A Patriot League play. Junior Brooke Bunting led the way with 13 points, while junior Cora Schissler and sophomore Bree Bunting scored 13 and 12, respectively. Schissler also added six rebounds, seven assists and six steals.
Weld Central 69, Aurora Central 25, in Aurora: Weld Central bounced back from a rare loss to improve to 5-2 overall. Senior Kaydee Sims continued to lead the charge, recording 22 points, 10 rebounds, seven steals and three assists. Fellow senior Hailey Jones added 15 points and seven steals, while junior Rylie Cagle chipped in seven points and a team-high 11 rebounds.
