STATS/NOTES | SCORING | ABOUT CHATTANOOGA GOLF
CHATTANOOGA—It’s an early start for the Chattanooga Mocs women’s golf team. In fact, it’s the earliest for the program during the spring semester opening play at the Trinity Forest Invitational Monday in Dallas.
Esme Hamilton, Beatriz Barrios, Daphne van Son and Rachel Thompson return to the starting. Jefimija Dordevic makes her first start after playing in all four fall tournaments as an individual. Hamilton’s 74.08 scoring average leads the way backed by three top 10s in four starts for the sophomore from England.
Barrios is just two strokes behind her at 74.25 with one of three top 5s on the roster. Five different Mocs have at least one top 10 with 13 par or better cards led by Barrios and Hamilton with four each. Eight of those are below par including all four from Barrios. Van Son (3) also has multiple rounds of par or lower.
The group is coming off back-to-back runner-up finishes, the first since 2015-16. They ended the fall as runner-up at the Palmetto Intercollegiate before starting the spring with a win at the USA Women’s Invite. It was followed by another at the Edwin Watts/Kiawah Island Spring Classic. It was a strong run of results winning in October at the Fall Invite, coming in second at the Pinehurst Challenge and then a third at the Cardinal Cup prior to the Palmetto.
The Mocs tackle the 14-team field at the former site of the PGA TOUR’s AT&T Byron Nelson Classic. It’s the third entry in the event for the Scenic City contingent matching up with another strong set of opponents. Top-ranked Baylor headlines the group joined by No. 10 Oklahoma State, No. 14 Texas Tech, No. 20 Texas and No. 23 Kansas State. There are eight top 50 teams there including No. 31 Chattanooga.
Monday’s shotgun start is at 9:30 a.m., Eastern time, with each team playing together as fivesomes. The field plays 36 holes on day one followed by a final 18 on Tuesday. Links to stats/notes and live scoring are above.
